I'm not sure if this method is posted on this forum already but I'm not trying to copy anyone. I'm just sharing what my friend showed me a few years ago.
This might work for other games too but don't take my word for it.

Step One: Create a new Microsoft/Xbox account
Step Two: Add payment option, I used PayPal for this.
Step Three: Unattach current Xbox account from your Fortnite account.
Step Four: Login to Fortnite on your Xbox and buy V-Bucks, it doesn't matter how much
Step Five: Contact Microsoft support and say your child had bought V-Bucks on the account and ask if you can refund the purchase
Step Six: unlink account and back into your main account if you have one
Step Seven: Wait for refund
You should now have free V-Bucks on your account and you should get a refund in a few days.
